Versus

Jamie Lynn on the cover of this new snowboarding photography book.

This morning I had a dream that I was talking to the legendary snowboarder Jamie Lynn on the phone for a job interview. Although the conversation was quickly turning into a request for a snowboarding date, I was flattered but focused. The coinciding clipping path work I was doing in photoshop was meticulous and steady when prompted to "Tell me about modeling for Rome." When I answered, no I'm not a model I am a graphic designer, he replied "Oh, shit."

Could be signifying the end of my snowboarding dreams.

I love Skating.

I do love ice skating more than anything, and not until I took a lap on the official sized speed skating rink on Lake Bemidji, did I realize that its time for me to hang up the figure skates for a shiny pair of speed skating blades. Its certain that without grippy toepicks I'd be in the clear.

As Vain as Dreads

Uh...so I'm moving to Vermont next week because I have a job there. At Rome SDS!
To commemorate my future surroundings (hexed with hippiness) and to demonstrate having a salary, I am going to buy these shoes lickity split. Cant wait to skate them in, along with a few good pair of deep black skinny jeans although tye-dye is the new black. Hoping there is something for me to skate out there. And my apologies for keeping anyone in the dark on my stagnant blog here. A lot of things (& my things on the internet) are going to change soon. Excited to be less spatially challenged over all and off the hook of social networks....

Repost: Me with purple dreads.

Wow, for the last few days, by various people here in Minnesota, I have been told I should "be a govy-girl" or move to Government Camp, Mt. Hood Oregon.

I'm not sure if that is flattering or not. Little did they know that I've already lived there and have my fair share of stories to tell. Now, if I wanted to live in a real mountain town, it would have to be Jackson Hole, WY!

...so during my google search to find a similar Wyoming felted piece, I came across other amazing things:
this book is seriously SO GOOD.

Man, what we need is another Roosevelt Franklin right now. And another decade of classic Sesame Street pumping love and sing-along songs through our veins.

My grandma claims to be from the greatest generation, having gone through the depression. Can you imagine growing up during a time when A POLITICAL LEADER was your hero? The days of American Idols may soon be over...

Xposeur

I dont even call myself a snowboarder anymore. But all the snowboarding videos are my guilty pleasure. This new flick, Guns Out was made by my friend Tyler. His dad is a professional clogger in North Carolina and Tyler is now a professional snowboarding filmer, making videos that turn SLC into the new Studio 54, for snowboarders.

Or, for gypster snowboarders. And fools.

total eclipse of the art shanties!

so last night emily and i trekked late-night to the art shanties. we celebrated the lunar eclipse and the beginning of the end of this year's shanty project. it was bitter cold. we watched some flicks on an ice-block screen and feasted at the art car shanty!

at 7:40 when we arrived, the sun was casting a crimson shade over the full moon. we heard a commotion in the distance, and arrived at the robot "shanty". we brought him to life again tonight, and attempted to launch him into space! (i helped set off the fireworks for these photographs)

while you're at it, why dont you see more Art Shanty photos

our friend sam from the s.u.r.v.i.v.a.l shanty served up some hand-hunted goose on the grill! oh my goodness it was delicious!

then we went on to our Snap Shot Shanty and composed some lovely night shots! (check our blog to view)

and our night could not have been more complete without the norae shanty! we sat in a cozy bunch of karaoke enthusiasts! lit by candlelight, fueled by the passion of singing classic rock lyrics off a screen into a microphone, the norae was bursting at the seams.
i just found this. from the main art shanty page. totally great.

(this one reminds me of al, riley, anne, ali, and everyone at the beach house and govylife 2006!)

i love the art shanty projects.

our last day is saturday so come out already!!

www.my world is especially flat.mcad

i have been thinking so much about how to define my relationship with skateboarding and snowboard to my art world (i.e. mcad) without seeming superficial, and now that i have existed here for a year, it just doesnt matter that i adjust myself! i am not superficial, and my relationships are nothing but genuine, okay.
also, i am the best friend to networking opportunities that you will ever meet, and thankfully i havent been taken advantage of by some business-type conflict. much more thankfully, i am in touch with loads of very amazing people.
these snowboarders, for instance; THINK THANK.
i love their unique approach to everything in snowboarding. down to the motion graphics, their soundtracks (customized drums set riffs to narrate last years' Patchwork Patterns vid), and mostly the raw craft of their filmaking and riding. all the dudes involved are sincerely nice/badass. niceass? THANKS!

dreamings

ive been wishing, hard, on an escape to an isolated mountain town in utah, wyoming, or montana. yknow, real cowboy terrain. mean muggin me as i walk into their dark, musty bar. where giant hills protect the tiny, glistening town with a tangible history. where i could sit cozy up in the shadow. i would stay there long enough to dodge a few bar fights and avalanches. real mountains. a few days (years) just for me.
where i would really love to be is jackson hole, wyoming. that snowboarding trip from a few years back claimed the best trip of my life, aside from my first family trip to montana where i had my first mountain high.
this is maybe the only media i have that remains of that wyoming trip
. (im pretty sure i loved it more than she remembers it.)
and im about to give away a secret, im surely jinxing my dreams here when i show you where ive really wanted to be in my adult life (mostly because it yolks my professional life in design and my greatest love, snowboarding)

the first part of this video (made in 2005) features all the greats; motion graphics by Nemo Designs, the snowboarding-oriented house/workspace with gorgeous huskies!, a utah mountain with snow, travis parker, hula hoops, day glo, big black gettin worked, and a minnesota local (bjorn leines).
for a much less selfish approach to snowboarding, ive unofficially decided to hang it up for a few years until i finish school. just wishin all my chronies the beast out there. just know that my tears are amidst the wintery mix.
